Psychotherapy and Counselling in Sheffield

IMG_7376.jpeg

My consulting room in Sheffield, S11

Counselling and Psychotherapy are often described as "talking therapies". I can give you the opportunity to talk about yourself and what is troubling you. Most people who are grappling with a problem want to be heard and understood, which is the first step to being helped. This is the foundation of my work but it is much more than this.

During my training at The Minster Centre, a leading psychotherapy training institute in London, I was inspired by tutors from the Body Psychotherapy and Relational Psychotherapy schools. I remain curious about our tendency to lose awareness of the connection between our bodies and minds and so I offer an opportunity to explore reconnecting these two not-so-separate parts of ourselves.

My belief Is that most of the wounds we live with have been caused within the context of a relationship; whether that be with family, romantic partners, employers, religious organisations, society or the state. It takes a relationship to address those wounds and this is the principle behind Relational Psychotherapy. I am not a "blank screen" or an aloof observer, as often therapists may be depicted in film or literature, but will be actively involved as a co-researcher in the shared project of "what is wrong, and we how do we resolve it?"

I will help you to find out what is making things difficult for you, and I can support you in finding a way forward that suits you.

Sessions usually last for 50 minutes, although longer meetings can be arranged. I typically work from a quiet indoor space, but for various reasons, you might decide you would prefer to take all or some of your sessions outdoors.

If working indoors is not for you, this local park offers an alternative space in which to meet.
